Bloomington North grad Grace Williams leads Eggplant to Little 500 title

After the trophy presentation and victory lap to Queen’s “We Are The Champions” and countless hugs with teammates, friends, family and Melanzana Cycling alumni, Grace Williams noticed that she hadn’t stopped smiling for even an instant.

Just a year ago, the former Bloomington North track and cross country star and Division I runner had to come to grips with leaving the sport she’d been devoted to since sixth grade. But here she was standing under the finish line late Friday afternoon at Armstrong Stadium, having led Melanzana Cycling to its first Women’s Little 500 title in its 10 years as a program, along with teammates Abby Teed, Abby Greene and Juli Torbik.
