Get ready to lace up your cleats, break out the clubs and throw on your helmet: Dick’s House of Sport is here.
Dick’s House of Sport is more than a normal sporting goods store; it’s an experience. A new type of store from Dick’s Sporting Goods, House of Sport is setting out to be a place seasoned athletes and sports newbies will want to hang out, not just shop.
Knox News got a tour of the store when it opened Wednesday at West Town Mall.
What exactly makes House of Sport different from the traditional Dick’s Sporting Goods store? Here are the things that set House of Sport apart:
Try before you buy
If you’ve ever thought of something as a “sport,” you can probably find it at Dick’s House of Sport. Better yet, you don’t need to hope you’ll like a piece of equipment based on word of mouth before taking it home: You can test just about everything Dick’s House of Sport sells before you buy.

The store sports an impressive selection of football, basketball, baseball, soccer, golf, camping, climbing, fishing, weight training, yoga and fitness gear.
Each type of sport has its own section within the store featuring equipment you can test. All you need to do to test a piece of equipment is find an employee. With a staff of more than 300, that shouldn’t be that difficult.
Run a few laps on The Field
Perhaps the most glaring difference between Dick’s House of Sport and your average sporting goods store is the 25,000-square-foot field connected to it.
“The Field” currently sports an Olympic-grade track, an inflatable batting cage, lawn games such as pickleball and cornhole, bleachers and a bright green turf made of recycled ocean plastic.
Those considering picking up a new pair of cleats or a new ball are encouraged to bring them out to The Field with an employee to test them out.
The Field will also host a number of events after the store’s grand opening in early June, such as youth sports camps, basketball tournaments, sports and agility classes as well as sunrise yoga.
Climb the rock wall
Situated in the middle of Dick’s House of Sport is a 40-foot tall rock wall. Complete with authentic Tennessee orange, the wall is open to all athletes who want to try to scale it.
Sign up online for 20-minute climbs for $ 12. As of now, walk-ins are also welcome.
Although the 20-minute climb is the only option, the store intends to add longer climbs in a few months.
Just like everything else in the store, climbing gear found on the second floor can be tested on the rock wall with guidance from climbing experts.
Immerse yourself in the House of Cleats
Sneaker heads and those seeking practical footwear will be drawn to the House of Cleats, located on the second floor.
The House of Cleats showcases more than 400 types of cleats available for purchase. Guests will find themselves surrounded by shoes, with employees available to help them find the right pair.
The section features a unique shoe scanner that quickly tells employees and guests which shoes are in stock and makes it easy for employees to find them in the back. With this scanner, the days of waiting 10 minutes to see if a store has your favorite shoe in your size in stock are gone.
Those more interested in more collectable shoes won’t be disappointed, as House of Sports also features sections dedicated to Jordans, Vans and more.
Hit home runs in The Cage
In addition to the inflatable batting cage located on The Field, Dick’s House of Sport is also home to an indoor batting cage known as “The Cage.”
The Cage features a batting tee and a pitching machine to help guests try out bats and balls before they buy. Additionally, guests can get fitted for bats at The Cage for free.
The unique part of The Cage, however, is the large screen that allows guests to play baseball-themed games while testing out merchandise. The screen allows players to step inside just about any major league baseball stadium and play point-based baseball themed games.
Get a hole-in-one at The Golf Pro Shop
Golf lovers might find themselves falling in love with Dick’s House of Sport the fastest thanks to “The Golf Pro Shop,” a section that takes up half of the second floor.
The shop has it all: a putting green, a wall of golf balls, a huge selection of clubs and a virtual hitting bay.
At the TrackMan hitting bay, guests can be fitted for clubs, take lessons from an on-staff PGA pro golf and play a variety of different virtual courses. You can rent out the hitting bay for $ 19.99 for 30 minutes.
After getting your golfing gear, head over to the golf apparel section, which features all the khakis and polos one could want.
