Let’s Talk – Talking Benches

Look for our Let’s Talk – talking benches across campus. These benches are a place to sit down and talk to someone new, a place to have an informal and friendly chat. To help get the conversation started our benches are themed, just scan the QR code on the bench to find some themed based conversation openers. Our themes are Nature and Wildlife, Art and Sculpture, Literature, Gaming and TV, and Getting to Know You.

The Pathfoot bench will be staffed Monday – Friday 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm with someone happy to blether!

In this online session from your Careers and Employability Service we’ll be talking about how you start afresh, with recent graduates sharing their experiences of finding new communities – what’s it like to move to a new city? How did they meet people? What did they wish they’d known beforehand? We’ll also be finding out how you can use your alumni communities to make new contacts and build networks.

Research has repeatedly shown that kindness is good for your own health, it helps to reduce stress and improve emotional wellbeing. It can even help you live longer. With such busy lives, it is easy to not notice you have pushed kindness aside while you focus on what is urgent. Good deeds don’t need to take time or cost money. This session explores how we can incorporate more acts of kindness into our daily lives, keep others in mind and overcome the “I don’t have time to habitual” habitual thinking. In doing so, you reap the rewards of reduced stress and improved mood, self-esteem and happiness.
