PHOTO PROVIDED Hughesville’s girls tennis team beat Central Columbia, 3-2, to claim the HAC-II title in girls tennis on Thursday afternoon.

Hughesville was one of three area teams in girls tennis to claim a league title with a victory on Thursday afternoon, showcasing the talent in the tennis field in the area.

The Spartans won the HAC-II thanks to beating Central Columbia, 3-2, to improve to 17-1.

Sarah Buck had a straight-set 6-0, 6-0 win over Riley Noss at No. 1 singles. Kylie Kilgore beat Brady McNamara 6-4, 6-1, and Annaka Bruder beat Claudia Brindisi, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2.

Central Columbia swept the doubles competition, including a three-set win at No. 1 doubles by Abigail Twiddy and Vy Nguyen over Hughesville’s Destini Flowers and Breanna Bobak, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (9-7).

Jersey Shore defeated Williamsport, 4-1, to claim the HAC-I title and move to 16-1 on the season.

Peyton Dincher won at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-3, over Abby Robertson, Celia Shemory picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles over Ally McCann and the doubles team of Breanna Porter and Addison Koch won at No. 1 doubles in a great match, 6-7 (4-7), 7-5, 7-6 (10-6) against Emlyn Kinley and Breanna Chicas.

Bucktail won the Mid-Penn league title thanks to defeating South Williamsport, 3-2, and improving to 15-0.

Montgomery blanked St. John Neumann, 5-0, in girls tennis. Samantha Guyer won at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, and Sloan Wooten picked up a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles.

Summer Drick and Brynn Fisher (No. 1) and Tori Magyar and Kailyn Woltz (M) earned wins in doubles competition, 6-0, 6-4 and 6-1, 6-1, respectively.

• Logan Harris scored the game’s lone goal as South Williamsport defeated Muncy, 1-0, in a Mid-Penn boys soccer contest on Thursday afternoon. The Mounties held a 10-5 shot advantage over the Indians (3-6-2).

Evan Yoder scored four goals and Trace Witter had a goal and an assist in Milton’s 7-1 rout over Shamokin. The Black Panthers held Shamokin to just four shots on goal. Shamokin scored with two minutes to play.

Wellsboro defeated Williamson, 7-1. The Green Hornets scored five second-half goals. Wellsboro’s Alex Citrino scored twice and had two assists and Caden Smith had two goals.

“I thought we had good defensive pressure tonight. Our speed of play, use of space, and finishing continues to improve. I am very pleased with the boys’ effort and execution,” Wellsboro coach Todd Fitch said.

• Mo Reiner recorded an impressive 25 saves to keep Milton in the game, but the Black Panthers fell to Central Columbia, 4-0, in girls soccer.

Milton was limited to just three shots on goal.

Maura Woland scored the game’s only goal as Warrior Run defeated Mifflinburg, 1-0. The Defenders’ goal came in the first half as Addy Ohnmeiss had six saves for the Defenders to preserve the shutout.

Elizabeth Shultz scored the game-winner in overtime to lift Williamsport to an exciting 2-1 win against Central Mountain. Jaelynn Helmrich scored the game-tying goal midway through the second half off an assist from Mia Clark.

Sarah Spring recorded three saves for the Millionaires. Central Mountain’s goal came from Lily Hendricks off an assist from Jaz Anderson.

Hughesville’s Sophie Clark scored off an assist from Grace Pysher which tied the game late in the 12th minute, but Southern Columbia would score twice in the first half — including with seven seconds left — to give the Tigers a 3-1 win over the Spartans.

Loren Gehret scored twice for Southern Columbia. Hughesville held a 17-14 shots advantage.

• Williamsport defeated Towanda, 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-13) in girls volleyball during a Pink Out contest in the Magic Dome. Elise Berthold had a team-high 10 kills and added 13 points. Haylee Bennett had a team-high 15 points, and Abby Carson, Belle Morrow and Lili Cox all had 11. Morrow led the Millionaires with 25 assists.

Wellsboro defeated Athens, 3-1 (29-27, 22-25, 25-17, 26-24). Emily Starkweather had nine kills and both Lexi Urena and Paige Logsdon had eight. Logsdon also had a team-high 10 blocks and Natalie Cleveland led the team with 25 digs. Starkweather added 21 digs.
