BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Mountain Hawks captured the second set on Saturday afternoon as they fell to Colgate 3-1 (19-25, 27-25, 22-25, 18-25). Lehigh falls to 11-9 overall and 2-6 in the league while the Raiders improve to 14-4 and 7-1 in league play.
Both squads would exchange points to open up the match, tied at 4-4. Colgate would push ahead by a margin of five points at 11-6 before Lehigh responded with a run of its own to cut the deficit to 12-10. The Raiders continued to extend their advantage throughout the first set, but Colgate would take set one, 25-19, to take the 1-0 lead.
The Mountain Hawks opened up the second set by winning the first two points before Colgate responded with one point of their own. Lehigh tallied the next three points to take continued to extend their lead to as many as seven points, 12-5. Colgate countered and came within one point, making the score 15-14 before Lehigh increased their advantage to 17-14. The Raiders went on a run and took the lead after five consecutive points to push the score to 19-17.
Both teams continued to battle, tying the score five times throughout the set and Colgate had a 23-20 edge before Lehigh earned three straight to tie the match once again at 23-23. The Raiders had an opportunity to close the set out, but the Mountain Hawks would not go away quietly as they went on to claim set two by a score of 27-25 and tied the match at 1-1.
Going into the third set, the Mountain Hawks allowed Colgate to score the first two points of the match before scoring four consecutive points of their own. Lehigh battled with the Raider, tying the score 10 different times in the set, and exchanging the lead on six different occasions. After Lehigh took a 16-15 lead, Colgate rallied for five-straight points, but the Mountain Hawks charged back with five points of their own to regain the lead at 21-10

The fourth set opened with Colgate taking a 5-0 lead before the Mountain Hawks got on the board. The Raiders increased their advantage to 10-4, but Lehigh countered with a couple of points and got to within four points, 11-7. Colgate extended their lead to nine points, 22-13, when they recorded four-straight points to come within five points, but Colgate would claim set four and the match with a 25-18 victory.

Three different Mountain Hawks ended the contest in double figures for kills, led by both first-years Natalie Luscombe and sophomore Emily Stewart, who each recorded 11 kills in the match. Sophomores Megan Schulte tallied 10 kills for Lehigh and also added eight digs.
Sophomores Makena Smith paced Lehigh’s offense, recording 34 assists and nine digs while a sophomore Kyleigh Brown led the team with 15 digs. Stewart finished with a team-high .500 hitting percentage in his first year Madison McCartney, who also hit .500 and recorded three service aces. Stewart also led the Mountain Hawks with five blocks.
Lehigh only has one match this coming week, traveling to Baltimore to take on Loyola on Saturday, Oct. 15, with the match scheduled to start at 4 pm The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
