LIVONIA – Bedford’s Elaina Smith is headed to state and her team nearly joined her.
Smith shot a 94 Tuesday in the Division 1 girls golf Regional at Whispering Willows Golf Course, then won a playoff on the second hole to earn a trip to the state finals on Oct. 14-15 in Battle Creek.
Smith was almost joined by her team at state. The Mules missed by just 3 strokes with a round of 392.
Grace Lump shot 98, Elyse Czarnik 99 and Ashlen Trimmer 101.
Woodhaven (385), Livonia Stevenson (387) and Farmington (389) are headed to state.
Monroe finished with 442 led by Allison Casey (106) and Kendra Zurecki (107).
Bedford’s junior varsity took third at the Southeastern Conference Invitational with Natalie Hackette taking fourth individually with 108.
SMCC wins twice
DEXTER – St. Mary Catholic Central (19-4) picked up a pair of victories Tuesday, topping Lenawee Christian 26-24, 25-18 and Dexter 25-23, 25-9.
Jessica Costlow filled up the stat sheet with 22 kills and 10 digs. Mackenzie Niedermeyer collected 29 assists and 9 digs. Leah DeSarbo, Raelyn Turner, Mckenna Payne, Lauren Conant, Jillian Anderson and Madeline Dettling also played well.
Milan stopped Dundee
MILAN – Milan handed Dundee its first loss of the season 119-66 Tuesday.
Annabelle Williams (50 and 500-yard freestyles) and Kam Stripp (butterfly, individual medley) both won two events and swam on two winning relays for 9-0 Milan.
Stripp hit state-qualifying times in both of her individual events.
Other wins came from Kiera Luhrs (100), Elaina Malach (backstroke), Mary Kate Wayne (breaststroke) and Nadia Smith (diving).
Dundee (10-1) got a win in the 200-yard freestyle from Joslyn Ball and had 12 personal-best times.
RIVERVIEW – Lauren McNamara set pool and school records in winning both the 100 and 200-yard freestyles and helped Flat Rock win the 400 freestyle relay during an 83-73 loss to Riverview Tuesday.
Bella Thomas, Ashlin Woodman and Riley Chevalier joined her on the winning relay.
Mason-Ida earns win
LINCOLN PARK – Every swimmer earned points for Erie Mason-Ida in a 93-84 win over Lincoln Park Tuesday.
Riley Jacobs (individual medley, breaststroke) and Summer Smith (50 and 100-yard freestyle) both won a pair of individual events and swam on two winning relays.
Alexa Chesney (backstroke) and Sophia Sorg (butterfly) won events.
Alexa Lay, Mia Balcerzak, Gracie Dean, Jessica Lay, Shelby Potter, Ellie Crawford, Lucia McClain, Issy Cureton and Sidney also swam well.
Monroe gets league win
Monroe got goals from Alex Gawel, Brian Palmer and Lucis Rzepa to beat Ypsilanti Lincoln 3-2 Tuesday for its first Southeastern Conference victory of the season.
Ashton Walker, Austin Dunn and Jovanny Gallegos had assists, and Talen Swinkey and Bryson Lane played well for the 6-9-3 Trojans
“It was our third game in four days and the lads were running on fumes for the last 10 minutes, but they dug in hard to get the win,” Monroe coach Ian Cooke said.
State Line rolling
FINDLAY, Ohio – Cooper Worley and Trevin Johnson scored as State Line Christian beat Heritage Christian 2-1 Tuesday for its third straight win.
It was the 14th goal of the season for Johnson. Ethan Rains had an assist for the 10-6 Patriots.
