NJAC Football Weekly Honors Announced For Week Ending Oct. 9

PITMAN, NJ — The New Jersey Athletic Conference has announced its football weekly honors for the week ending Oct. 9.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JOEY BILDSTEIN • Salisbury University
Junior • Superback • Ridgely, MD/North Caroline

Bildstein picks up his second NJAC Offensive Player of the Week honor in the last three weeks after leading Salisbury to a 23-0 win over William Paterson. He rushed for a career-high 150 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries, besting his previous career high of 148 yards in last year’s contest against the Pioneers. Bildstein currently ranks second among all NJAC players with an average of 98.5 rushing yards per game and is tied for the most touchdowns this season (6).

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
MEIR PITTMAN • Kean University
Junior • Linebacker • Burlington City, NJ/Burlington City

Pittman earns his first NJAC Defensive Player of the Week honor after leading the Kean defense in its first NJAC win of the season over Montclair State. He posted 10 tackles, seven of which were solo stops, and set the MSU offense back 16 yards. He registered two sacks (both solo) for a total of 11 yards. Pittman and the Cougar defense held the Red Hawks scoreless in the fourth quarter as Kean put up 14 points to take the 23-22 win. He currently ranks sixth in the NJAC with 8.2 tackles per game.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JAKE HURLER • Rowan University
Junior • Kicker • Freehold, NJ/Freehold

Hurler was named the NJAC Football Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time this season after hitting a 36-yard game-winning field goal to help lift Rowan to a big 23-21 win over TCNJ Friday evening. Hurler also made the tackle off a blocked extra point on the previous touchdown to save two points. Additionally, he averaged 50.7 yards on three kickoffs. Hurler leads all NJAC kickers with an average of 5.4 points per game this season.

OFFENSIVE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
BEN HUTCHINS • Salisbury University
Freshman • Quarterback • Hazlet, NJ/Raritan

Hutchins becomes the second Sea Gull to earn NJAC Offensive Rookie of the Week, joining Week 1 honoree Dario Belizaire. In his first career start, Hutchins was 5-of-10 passing for 70 yards in Salisbury’s win over William Paterson. Hutchins also carried the ball eight times for 50 yards. The rookie QB has seen time in four contests this season.

DEFENSIVE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
JACK YOUNG • The College of New Jersey
Freshman • Defensive Back • Newton, NJ/Newton

Young collects his second NJAC Defensive Rookie of the Week honor after a strong performance in TCNJ’s setback to Rowan. He posted six tackles and an interception. The pick in the fourth quarter was his second of the year, and came with the Lions up by seven. The rookie is up to 21 total tackles on the year along with his two interceptions.
